• South Lewis Falcons keep showing their potential

Posted by Zachary Makuch on 12/11/2015 5:30:00 PM

South Lewis faced off against General Brown in the Lions' Den Thursday night, December 11, 2015. The end result was a loss with a final score of 46-24. However one can see that the South Lewis Falcons fought a hard fight in order to as well as they did. They have the drive this year to do great things which many people are starting to see. Today I was reminded of a speech done by Matthew McConnaughey during his Oscar acceptance speech. I may have took some liberties with the speech and changed it a bit during practice, but here is the key part of the speech.

"And to my hero. That’s who I chase. Now when I was 15 years old, I had a very important person in my life come to me and say “who’s your hero?” And I said, “I don’t know, I gotta think about that. Give me a couple of weeks.” I come back two weeks later, this person comes up and says “who’s your hero?” I said, “I thought about it. You know who it is? It’s me in 10 years.” So I turned 25. Ten years later, that same person comes to me and says, “So, are you a hero?” And I was like, “not even close. No, no, no.” She said, “Why?” I said, “Because my hero’s me at 35.” So you see every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero’s always 10 years away. I’m never gonna be my hero. I’m not gonna attain that. I know I’m not, and that’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing." -Matthew mcConnaughey-

Now we don't know what we are like in ten years. Unfortunately the magic eight ball cannot tell us this information. We can assume that we are great as long as we presently work hard each and every day. So I say to the wrestlers that they need to strive to beat the person that they will be the next month, year, five years, or ten years. They need to strive to become better than they ever thought possible so that they can change their future for the best. Wrestling is a sport centered on the idea that hard work and determination does pay off. South Lewis Falcons do not give up and keep plugging away. Strive for the best and be the best.

  • Close loss to South Jefferson shows potential of South Lewis Falcons

Posted by Zachary Makuch on 12/3/2015 7:00:00 AM

The South Lewis Falcons hosted their first dual of the season against the South Jefferson Spartans. This Coach was biting his nails throughout the contest. Key victories by Jake Olmstead, Tyler Spann, Matt Bush, Kyle Fitzgerald, and forfeits to Kyle Greene, Dylan Vosburgh, and Thomas Randall allowed the South Lewis Falcons to come within 3 points of tying South Jeff. The final score was 42-45. This score shows that the South Lewis Falcons have the potential to be a major contender this year, however I caution the wrestlers to take this in stride. Fortunately the chips fell in our favor, but we also didn't lose heart throughout the night. Let this be a lesson that hard work and dedication can pay off throughout the year.

Let me put this loss in greater perspective:

    2015-2016: Loss 42-45

    2014-2015: Loss 16-49

    2013-2014: Loss 12-71

    2012-2013: Loss 9-75

    2011-2012: 15-60

    2010-2011: Loss 6-84

    2009-2010: Loss 0-70

    2008-2009: Loss 0-73

    2007-2008: Loss 0-75

    2006-2007: Loss 9-63

    2005-2006: Loss 12-52

Good luck to the South Lewis Falcons, and good luck this weekend as they head to Poland for the Dominick DeSiato Memorial Duals. Come support your South Lewis Falcon's next Wednesday December 2, 2015 at 6:00 as they host the General Brown Lions in the Falcon's Nest.

  • "Inter-Squad Duals" a Huge Success!!!

Posted by Zachary Makuch on 11/27/2015 4:30:00 PM

The "Inter-Squad Duals" presented by the South Lewis Wrestling Club on November 4th was a huge success. The spaghetti dinner was extremely successful and tastey. Thank you to Rich Ventura and company for catering the dinner. The dinner and event raised a total of $1366 between the dinner and 50/50 raffle. After costs were taken out, the South Lewis Wrestling Club donated $400 to the American Cancer Society. Team Makuch was the successful team overall but Coach Widrick was able to avenge his team by ceremoniously beating Coach Makuch in a match that could only be described as, "on the verge of torture for one participant regardless at how well all parties involved ,besides the opponent, cheated". Thank you to the community for all of your support, and good luck to the South Lewis Wrestling program this year.

  • New Features

Posted by Zachary Makuch on 11/10/2015 6:00:00 PM

Mr. Makuch is working on the finishing touches to the website for this year. This includes updating the Coaches information, updating the roster, schedule, etc. New this year will be the addition of the South Lewis Wrestling Records and a play by play of who may break any standing record. Another new feature this year will be the addition of this blog to keep parents and community members connected to what is going on with the program.
