• Literacy:
          For our curriculum, we are following the New York State ELA Modules.  There are four modules with three units in each one.  Each module lasts about 10 weeks and focuses on a different topic.  Within each topic are essential questions that will guide students' thinking, while they learn various literacy skills, strategies and concepts.  Below are the topics and essential questions for each module.

                               1. What is the role of sports in American culture?
                               2. How have athletes broken barriers during the historical era in which they
                                   lived?
                               3. What do biographical informational texts teach us?

                               Natural Disasters in the Western Hemisphere
                      Essential Questions: 
                               1. What is a natural disaster?
                               2. How does a narrator's point of view influence how events are described in
                                   literature?
                               3. How should multinational organizations respond when communities are
                                   struck by natural disasters?
